About

STARLOG is a sci-fi media company at the intersection of science fiction, science, culture, and ethics.

Founded in August 1976, STARLOG was the first magazine to go behind the scenes of science fiction film, television, and literature. It ran continuously through 374 issues, covering the most consequential decades of the genre. After a hiatus, STARLOG is being relaunched in August 2026 by Starlog Publishing, LLC, on its fiftieth anniversary.

We cover science fiction with the same craft and curiosity that built the original magazine: long-form features, original reporting, criticism, and conversation with the people imagining the future. We do not chase trends. We write for readers who want to think.

Our editorial team:

  • Annalee Newitz, Editor-in-Chief
  • Jordan Hoffman, Podcast Host and Editor of The Lodestar
  • Dave Gonzales, Podcast Producer
  • Meredith Borders, Sr. Editor
  • Jason Kauzlarich, Sr. Art Director

Editorial principles: We make editorial decisions independent of advertising, sponsorship, and commercial considerations. We disclose sponsored content and affiliate relationships clearly. We use fair use to quote and cite the works we cover, and credit rightsholders for everything we reference. We do not publish content generated by AI as our own. We do not consent to STARLOG content being used to train AI models without a written licensing agreement.
